Selected by the Red Sox in the fourth
round of the June 1989 draft after playing
three years at the University of Hartford...
hit better than .400 in each of his three
seasons at Hartford and had a .413 career
batting
average...hit safely in 87 of 112 collegiate
games...a two-time ECAC Player of the Year...
was
inducted into the university's Alumni
Athletic Hall of Fame on Jan. 25, 1997...received
the
Middlesex County (CT) Chamber of Commerce
Role Model of the Year award on "Jeff Bagwell Day"
on January 29, 1999...also had his uniform No. 9
retired
by his alma mater, Xavier (CT) High, that day
...named New England Player of the Year by Boston
media in 2001 for the sixth time in his career

1993, '94, '97, '99, 2000, '01)...in 1999, he was
selected
by a panel of experts as the first baseman
on the franchise's All-Astrodome team...hosted
5,700 area youths and their families for "DK57" day
through the Jeff Bagwell Foundation , honoring the
memory
of Darryl Kile...he and wife Ericka make
their
off-season home in Houston...the couple has
two
daughters, Bryce Alycia (January 11, 2001) and
Blake Alexia (December 23, 2002).
